More Baptisms

Leading Up to Baptisms

Dear Family,
Sorry I have been a little chambone about my letters.  The start of my mission has been a little crazy.  Litterally everything is happening so fast.  I never thought It would be happening like this.  There are some times throughought the day where I am so deep in a lesson and I look out the window for a second and I think to myself...I am in the middle of El Salvador and I am teaching the word of God in a different language.  I am so comfortable here, it is so natural.  When these times hit me, I can feel the love of God overcome me.  In these moments I testify for why I am here in the mission.  I tell them all the things I have left behind to help these humble people.  Awesome Experiences.
First off I know its wierd that I am writing on a Tuesday.  It is because we have a huge temple activity tomorrow and We havent had a normal PDAY in a while. President told us to have PDAY today.  First things first.  My new companion is doing so much better.  The best way to help him out is by loving him more and more.  I have been trying to dig deeper into his life to get to know him better and better.  When he can be more comfortable with me, he will open up with me and he will be more trainable.  The thing I learned from my first week of training is that I have just as much to learn, apart from the Spanish.  He is struggling but we are working hard, speaking spanish all day if we can.  I leave time every lesson for him to share what he can but most importnatly his testimony.  I told him how important his testimony is and he told me, no they can't even understand it.  I shared some experiences that I have had where I am teaching and I instantly know I made a bunch of grammar mistakes and they dont even catch it because they are being filled with the Spirit.  The Spirit really testifies of our message no matter how butchered our Spanish is.  Elder Thornton is doing awesome.  Baptized before he even finished his first week, and he will be baptizing again next week.  I really wanted him to have the opportunity to baptize Giovanni, but our Zone leader accidently asked Giovanni who he wanted to be baptized by and he said me.  Also my companion was fine with it because he still is trying to memorize the prayer.  He will be ready for the baptisms next week.  The two baptisms we have next week are two kids.   We had to work hard with the parents to get permission and we are still working with them to get baptized following the example of their kids.
We have been looking for alot of new investigators, working with the members.  We are a little low on the progressing investigators right now because we found a ton of people that live out of our area. We have this activity for the members and investigators tomorrow to invite everyone to this activity.  We are looking to have 4 or 5 investigators at this activity.  The temple is the best missionary in this country.  More people who have come to these activities have been baptized than anyone.  Pray for us tonight that we can bring alot of investigators to this activity.  We are working with the rest of the family that we baptized, grisselda and Wilber.  They are looking very positive.
I got a lot of letters from new people this week.  Brother Ballard, the best seminary teacher ever, and many more people.  I dont have much time to respond to all of them but thanks for the love.  I haven't gotten those packages that are coming.
Mom, I am still waiting for those pictures.
Aj, keep being a boss, I love you man.
I love all of you.  Keep working hard and dont forgot the work of the Lord in your own lives.  I am still alive and healthier than ever.  The Lord blesses us in many ways.  I am praying for Madeline...I have heard what happened in New York.

Changes and New Responsibilities

Dear Family,
As mom saw on facebook, yes I am training...but what she couldnt see is that I am also a district leader.  What is President thinking, haha.  No I know he is inspired and he has confidence in our work.  He told me in my interview that I have a lot of potential, but I didnt think that would mean training and leading a district my 3 change.  I know I can do it, but I will need all the prayers I can get and I have faith that it is the best thing for a missionary to grow.  I realized with this change that I can understand pretty much everything and I can say whatever I want.  That's fluent right?  Sometimes there are words that I don't know but I can understand everything.  Right now is the most important part of my mission, I can speak well, understand, and have this opportunity to learn alot of words and ways to teach the doctrine of Christ.  I am so happy right now.  So yes, I have alot of new things going on and I will tell you how it goes.
Did you get a new companion ? Yes
What's his name? Elder Thornton
Where is he from? Utah, Ogden
Are you in the same area? Yes Piramidal
Did you get to see Elder Draper? Yes, he is doing awesome, he has a good trainer and from what I heard can speak well.
Do you still take the pills? Everyday of my life.
Did you here Steven Doughrty got into BYU? YUP
Did you here that Mark Doughrty is our new Bishop?Gnarly
So this week we had another baptism, but not just a normal baptism.  Martìn Cornejo, one of the most powerful investigators I have ever taught.  He was baptized and took us aside and bore the most powerful testimony I have ever heard.  He began to weep and hugged us for 5 minutes.  It was an awesome experience.  I couldnt help but to cry.  He is so awesome and so willing to do whatever it takes to be the best disciple of Christ.  I dont have pictures because my  companion Elder Nunez hasnt sent me them.  I will send them out next week.  It was awesome.
We have two more dates for this Sunday.  Giovanni which was a friend of Martin, and Maria Lena who is a little girl.  My new comp will baptized his first week in the mission.  How awesome is that.  I am stoked for him, because he needs it. He is really quiet and really doesn't like Spanish.  I am only speaking to him in Spanish to help him out.  We are working hard, I need to help him realize how this work goes.  He will learn how to work hard very soon.  I need to be an example like you said DAD.  I am willing to do whatever.  With a companion that is learning spanish, I have a large majority of the time to speak.  My spanish is growing so fast and my teachings are getting better and better everyday.  Haha his first day he didnt really talk, so my mouth hurt so much that night.  He is learning so fast though and I am so grateful for this opportunity.
We are working with other families and references.  We are looking good for the first weeks in November but we will have some dates for the end of November.  We are working hard and I love and miss you guys so much.  I thank you for teaching me how to work hard in everything.  There are missionaries here who dont know how to work hard.  I wish the best for the family.  Sounds like you guys are always doing awesome.  Tell AJ to answer my emails.  Slacker REturn MisSionARy...  Always remember why we are here, and where we are going.
I love you guys so much.  You mean the most to me and I am always praying for your success Spiritually.

Families Can Be Together Forever

To explain how this week was, I sent some pictures.  We ended up having the sweetest wedding and baptism.  So many members were involved helping out and everything.  Both of the services were remarkable.  We baptized a FAMILY!!!  They were so happy.  As you can see in the pictures, Wilber, the groom wore my suit, haha he looked pretty good.  We had many investigators there to watch and two of them have dates for this Sunday and the following.  Martín and Giovanni.  They told us that they were so happy for them and cant wait for thier own baptism.  They felt the Spirit sooo strong.   This was a day I will never forget.  I am attached to this couple, they made so many changes and leaps of faith with their baby and everything.  They should get their baby soon.
We had interviews with President and it was such an awesome experience to talk to this man who knows so much and loves us so much.  He had some good stuff to say about our area and our work.  He also told me that soon I will have to lead in the area, basically telling me that my companion is going to leave.  I am excited for a change but I am sad that he will be leaving.  He will be missed.
We also had the most amazing opportunity to go to the temple yesterday.  We did a session as a zone and my zone is so sweet. First time in the temple of San Salvador and what an spiritual experience.  As missionaries we are engulfed in this gospel.  Going to the temple was a well needed moment to sit back and count my blessings.  Also to focus on the most important promises I have made in my life.  I understand more and more everytime we go.  It was so fun and well needed.
The missionary work is killing it right now.  We were really busy this week doing all this stuff.  We are still trying to baptized 6 this month.  We have another family that is looking positive but they will need to be more committed.
You guys all sound so happy and ready to take on the challenges of the world.  You are an example to my investigators of how a family can be together and enjoy the blessings of this gospel.  I hope that you guys are having success in your life.  Brothers and sisters, thank you for everything and your example to the people here in El Salvador.  Mom and Dad Thanks for everything, you know everything you have done for me.  If I tried to write it out, I would be here for days.  This work really does bless the family.  I hope you can see the little blessings every day.  Whether it is in your jobs or in your health.  He always provides.  Trust in him.
I hope you guys have an awesome week.

General Conference

Whats up guys?!!!!  How was the conference for you guys?  Wow! we were shocked here with everything that happened.  I love conference and feel so bad for not listening all those years. I want to dedicate this letter to CADE... As you all know, the age to serve changed.  Cade! Are you preparing, this is a huge change but it is revelation directly from GOD.  For some reason he wants younger boys and girls to serve.  With this change their will be a boom of new missionaries all over the world.  In your situation Cade, this is a blessing.  With the whole BYU situation and the grades, all you have to focus on now is your grades and your spiritual growth.  Are you prepared Cade?  You should be fine if you are going to seminary and taking it seriously.  READ the Book of Mormon and learn, learn, and learn... PRAYYYYY man seriously, how are you doing with these things.  I hope you all enjoyed conference and learned alot.
I loved conference and so did all my investigators.  Mom, no she didnt hear that talk but we are going to get it for her because I thought the same exact thing...she needs to hear this.  Other than that, we are dominating hear in Piramidal.  I love the success we are having but we are trying to be humble.  The wedding is still on for this wednesday and the baptism to follow.  We put a date with Martin two nights ago for the 21st of October and a date with Maria Lena for the 28th.  We are going to have at least 6 baptisms this month and we are soooo stoked.  Dad I am so glad to hear work is going well and you are recieving the benefits of this work.  Temporal and Spiritual.  Read Mosiah 3:41 the key to success... I love you fam.

Love you guys!

A Wedding and A Baptism

Dear Family,

Once again, thanks for the package...  I have been snacking on that all week and all the companions have been snacking on that.  I got a card from the Garlocks and I am stoked for John.  Tell John Congratulations, I am really proud of him.  The girl looks sweet too.  The pictures of Australia are sweet pops, working hard.  Mom the scriptures I am talking about are the small, English ones that are like Orange.  Look in the box next to the TV to the right and down.  If you are sending a package can you send the scriptures, another pair of pants, black, razors, and nutella again.  But if you can send the pictures sometime this week that would be awesome.  I just want pictures the week before my mission with the family and my friends and just a bunch of pictures.  Also maybe a picture of my baptism would be sweet too.   I heard from Bergen! Sounds like volley ball is fun.  Work hard as a freshman...It will pay off.  Dont slack in school.  How are your grades?

Well now with the good news.  My area has turned around a whole 180 degrees.  The first month we had no one to teach no one progressing.  The past two weeks we have brought 6 and 7 people to church and we have families and people that are so powerful.  Right now we are working with a lot of people who have dates and are preparing for the month of October.  With Grisselda and Wilber, we are planning a BautiBoda...A wedding and baptism in the same day.  This couple is sweet and they have a little baby in the hospital.  Grisselda was pregnant with twins.  They lost one and the other is sick in the hospital.  The miracle is we taught Grisselda the first time and taught the Plan of Salvation of course.  She was touched and so were we.  We then met the husband and starting teaching him.  As she starting keeping her commitments and coming to church this couple started to see miracles.  They started to see their little baby get better in the hospital.  They will get their baby back before the wedding and baptism.  They have such strong testimonies that when the keep a commandment they are going to get blessings.  Expect pictures in two weeks of a wedding and baptism and pictures in one year when we come back to visit them get sealed in the temple...!
We also are teaching Martin who is also the most committed guy I have ever seen.  He told us already he is going to get baptized but he doesn't just want to get baptized.  He wants to literally leave his sins behind, get a calling, and serve a mission later in his life with his girlfriend who is a member.  He has a date for the 14th as well.
We are working with two kids in families that are split up.  We will have two youth baptisms in October as well...
We found the other day anothe miracle.  This women named Xiomara is very poor and humble. We were teaching her the first vision for the first time and she Asked us the name of this 14 year old boy.  We told her about Joseph Smith and she told us that she had that name in her mind for some reason.  She is going to get baptized this month too.  She is awesome.
CONFERENCE is this week.  I am soo stoked and so are our investigators.  I can't wait and I know we will be spiritually fed.
I love you guys so much.  I don't have much time because we are goiung to Presidents House to Watch a movie and eat lunch for PDAY.  Love you guys so much and Keep working hard.  All is well!!!
